Community Rallies To Address Funding Cuts, Layoffs In Schools
One school held a walk-a-thon Saturday to raise funds for schools, while city leaders addressed the number of pink slips recently handed out to teachers -- Mike Mibach reports. Click here to see the video »
A day filled with good friends, good music, and lots of walking!
The Joaq-a-thon is a day-long walking event scheduled in the spring for Joaquin Miller students and families. This activity affords the children an opportunity to raise money for their school. They obtain sponsors who agree to donate according to how far the children walk. Joaq-a-thon Day is full of challenges and excitement for the walkers, who may earn T-shirts and a variety of awards. The children love this event!
Each year, parent volunteers are needed to work at gates, hand out popsicles, make buttons, and help check walkers in and out. It is a great way to spend part of your Saturday and the kids will thank you!
Please contact any of the 2011 Joaq-a-thon Coordinators to express your interest in helping make this event an even greater success.
