The Landscape Committee is in the final stages of completing a
proposal to re-landscape the front of the school. This is a very
exciting project that will significantly improve the look of the
school as well as provide innovative teaching experiences for our
children. Please stop by to see the plan.
This plan is being posted in the glass cabinet to the right of the main entrance. Packets of information on the plan will be left in the office.
The teachers and the Hillside Gardeners have developed a vision of a
teaching garden in the front of the school with primarily native
plants and trees, pathways, and a sitting area where teachers can
bring their classrooms outside to incorporate aspects of the garden
into their curriculum. This idea began back in 2001 when the first
Ecology Club was started. The teachers and Hillside Gardeners hired
a landscape architect, Trisha Christopher, to complete a preliminary
landscape plan in 2005. The plans have been reviewed and approved by
OUSD. The committee has received two bids from Mark Roberts of Roots
nShoots Landscaping and from Barry Friesen of Dawn Landscaping, Inc.
The project will be funded by the JMPTA, The Hillside Gardeners,
Jean Quan, The Piedmont Pines Neighborhood Association, grants from
Wells Fargo and Chevron as well as parent and community donations.
Information about how parents can donate to the project is posted
with the plan in the hallway and will be in this week's Walkie
Talkie.
