The annual Joaquin Miller Walkathon will be held Saturday, March 18, 2006. Many volunteers are needed to support our children in this major fundraising
event. Meet other Joaquin Miller parents and alumni as we hand out popsicles, register walkers, check gates, punch tickets, etc. Plus, all volunteers earn a 5-
kilometer credit for the classroom of your choice for each 2-hour shift worked!
This is truly a JM community effort with over 145 volunteers doing their share
each year. A sign-up board is posted outside the main office or you can call Maret Bartlett at 482-2785 or email at hughandmaret@earthlink.net to sign up for unfilled volunteer jobs and show your support for our kids. THANK YOU!
The 2006 Joaquin Miller Science Fair is Scheduled for Wednesday, March 22nd, from 6:00-7:00 pm in the Multi-Purpose Room. Student packets were distributed on Tuesday, February 21. The District's Science Fair will be held March 28-30 at
the Chabot Space and Science Center. We are asking that all projects submitted be experiments—whereby a variable is tested. Please do not submit demonstrations, models or new inventions.
Students in Grades K-3 will be encouraged to participate, whereas all 4th-5th grade students will be required to submit a project, either individually or in groups limited to 4 students. All Science Projects are due into the classroom on Monday, March 20. Thank You in advance for assisting your child with the process of their project, by answering their questions, taking them to the library for research, making suggestions and supporting them as they begin and complete their project using the Scientific Method.
The district has begun to conduct an annual survey of parents, students and employees. According to the district, "The surveys will serve as a public, formal vehicle for all stakeholders to speak our voices about what is working and what needs to change in order for our district and schools to be great." The deadline to complete this year's survey is Feb. 8th and the link to it is here.
