Parents, are you considering Joaquin Miller Elementary for your child? We want to answer as many questions for you as we can. Start by grabbing a copy of the "New and prospective parents handbook,'' available online here. It's packed full of useful information about the school, tours and how to enroll.
Hey, dads! Wondering what you can do to help Joaquin Miller? Get involved with the JM Dad's club. Meet other dads, make friends and support the school. A new discussion group/e-mail list is available on Yahoo Groups. Anyone can join the club and anyone (Dad's club member or not) can join the discussion group. Just go to the Yahoo Groups page and follow the "Join this Group" link. Want to know more about the club? Then go here.
Mark your calendars for May 1st for the May Day Fair and Yard Sale! A group of parents are resurrecting the annual spring fair that was once a Joaquin Miller tradition. We'll have old favorites like the "Cake Walk", "Gold Fish Pond" and "Sponge Toss." We're also hoping to arrange for a BBQ, entertainment and other fun activities for the kids. We'll give the fair a test run this year and if it's successful we'll expand on it in years to come. We're still looking for volunteers to help. Contact Liz Hughes (531-4619) and Cynthia Frenz (482-1219) if interested.
The Intradistrict Transfer Window Period is from February 2 to February 13 (2 weeks only). If you are interested in 1) transferring your child to another school (elementary or middle school) or 2) live outside the Joaquin Miller attendance area and have a younger child about to enter kindergarten or any other grade 1-5, you must apply during the application period. Siblings are not automatically accepted into Joaquin Miller School. Call Student Services at 879-8111 for more information.
It's time to register for the after-school enrichment program! Expose your children to the fine art of cooking, chess, Spanish or French and much more. The classes themselves are run by independent contractors who specialize in their field and in working with children. Classes begin the week of January 12th. Information and registration forms are available in the anteroom of the auditorium or on the web site here. Don't miss out!
