February 12-16th kicks off the 2nd Annual JM Reading Week! Our goal is to encourage reading, challenge students to read in subject areas that they might not otherwise choose, and to encourage use of the library. Please help your child join in the "JM Reading Week Game" by encouraging them to read for at least 15 minutes each day.
If you have older children, encourage them to read 10 pages a day or an entire book in a week. Your child may read aloud to you or read silently.
Talk about books with your child and encourage them to choose new books from the library each week. Let your child know that reading is valuable, and that it is an important part of your life as well.
One of the most important ways to encourage your children to read, is to allow them to see you reading. At the end of the week, all children who have completed the program, will receive an award, along with their well earned recognition in the display case across from the library. The children will be bringing home their JM Reading Week Flyers that include a tally sheet and book review form by next Friday. Use the tally sheet to keep track of their minutes or pages read, and return it to their classroom by Tues., Feb. 20.
Your child can also fill out the simple book review form to review a book they have recently read, or have read in the past, and have them turn it into the box in the library. Extra book review forms will be in the library also, in case your child wants to share more of the books they have loved, or maybe the ones they thought were duds.
We hope to receive a bunch of kid book reviews which will be displayed in the library for use by the children when selecting books on their library day. So select your books (don't forget to check out the awesome selection of books that can be purchased at the JM Book Fair-Feb. 6), and get ready to play the JM Reading Week Game! Let's start our children on the path to a love of reading that will last a lifetime!
