Join the Joaquin Miller Parent Teacher Association
The Joaquin Miller PTA (JM-PTA) is a local unit of the
Oakland Council, Peralta District of The California Congress of Parents, Teachers, and Students, Inc. At Joaquin Miller we have traditionally enjoyed a membership rate of about 95% of our families. Membership is obtained through paying District PTA dues.

PTA meetings are held at 7:00 p.m., on the third Thursday of each month of the school year, unless otherwise changed by the Executive Board. Child care and a pizza dinner are provided at no cost to make it easier for families to attend. You'll find in attendance friendly and passionate parents, teachers, and the principal, working together to make our school the best it can be.
Our efforts and fundraising support our computer lab and library, motor development class, third-grade flute class, arts enrichment, teacher’s assistants and supplies in most classrooms, in addition to facilities improvements such as the purchase of a digital kiln for the school and playground equipment and matting for the school yards.

Committees
The work of the PTA is carried out through its Executive Board and through numerous program committees. The current standing committees include Arts Enrichment, PTA Music, Back-to-School Picnic, PTA Bulletin Board, Computer Room Coordinators, eScrip Roster/Membership, the Green Team, School Pictures, Fall Auction, School T-Shirts, Graduation Party, Spring Fair, Health and Safety, Safety Patrol, Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheon, Library Committee, Walk-A-Thon, Multiculturalism, Diversity and Human Relations, the Yearbook and more. Joaquin Miller PTA Board Mission Statement
Our mission as the Joaquin Miller PTA Board is to seek out and express the voice and spirit of our school community. We believe that this voice encompasses the love and care brought to our school by our children, their parents and our staff, and that within this voice there is an innate will to do the right thing.
This Board in its discussions and decision making will listen, cooperate and respect one another’s viewpoints, while keeping in mind our status as volunteers and respecting each others time. Our goal in making decisions is simple: to make choices that will benefit Joaquin Miller in the current year and for years to come.
The members of this Board commit themselves to being inclusive, straight-forward, and responsive to the concerns & aspirations of all. We also recognize that we are accountable for our decisions and actions to the entire Joaquin Miller community and accept this responsibility with humility and a sense of optimism.
The PTA raises funds through a variety of sources, including donations, Passive Fundraising and memberships. The single most important fund-raiser is the Annual Fall Auction, which last year was responsible for 55% of the PTA's income.
