Our current science unit is on plants. The children have been planting their own miniature lawns and watching how bean plants sprout. They are enjoying studying their plants and recording their observations. This is a very curious group. Science is a real hit!
Our current theme in Open Court Reading is "Things That Go." The students are in the process of inventing/designing on paper their own mode of transportation. They are very imaginative! The children are also writing about their invention, describing how it works, how fast it goes, and how many people it transports. Ask your child to describe his/her invention. I'm sure you'll be amazed at the creativity.

Students in Room 8 have published three books so far this year. The latest book, titled Did You Know?, tells interesting facts about animals. Each page is written by a different student and depicts a different animal. The students are really coming along with their writing!
Every student in Room 8 is a star. But one student shines brighter than usual when (s)he is Room 8's "Star Student." Our "Star Student" holds the title for one week. On Friday, (s)he gives a presentation in front of the class sharing her/his talents and interests. So far this year we have been entertained/inspired by the following "Stars": Kiara, Willy, Ellie, Alani, and Dylan. Great work, students!
