Crafts - Teepees

Tee Pee Craft 2005

Volunteers: Heather Lee and Maria Fay

This is a fun and easy craft project. There is only a very small amount of preparation needed and the work the day of the event is fun. We only had about 20 kids participate in this craft.
My first recommendation is that you read through all the other updates before you get started as they have great ideas and descriptions of the day. The supplies are located in a labeled clear storage box in the PTA shed. It contains almost everything you will need for the 2006 feast. There are 36 precut teepee forms. You will need more brown construction paper size 18 x 12 in order to make additional teepee forms. The templates for the teepees are in a manila envelope in the storage box. There are two staplers in the box that I repaired (both of them broke during the feast day). I recommend that you bring an extra from home or the school just in case they don't hold up. You should have plenty of tape, sticks, staples and good markers. Practice making a teepee before the big day (see instructions on 2003 update). A few things you will need to gather that are not in the storage box are: paper bags with handles (to sort the teepees by class), baskets or some container to hold the markers and something to put down on the table to protect the paper from moisture. We had both a plastic table covering and paper bags for the children to put their teepee on and then draw-but it was a particularly wet day. Once the children drew on their teepee and put their names on the back, we did the taping and stapling so they could move on. Once it was all complete we put the teepees in the appropriate class bag for the teacher to take.
Last but not least, as stated on all the other updates, it will be cold. Wear warm clothing and gloves that you can wear while taping and stapling.

Have lots of fun!!!
Heather and Maria
